Out Innerspace Dance Theatre: Bygones

The past does not let us go. Like a network of fine veins it meanders through our psyche, through space, objects and time. In eerie images as poetic as they are nightmarish, “Bygones” explores the contrast between creation and destruction, the emergence of form and its passing into formlessness. Mysterious beings glide through a ghostly architecture; puppets, masks, light and illusion techniques give rise to a surreal world in which logic no longer applies. Objects come to life; beings from the past glide around people, passing through walls and nocturnal corridors of light. With fantastical imagery and movements that are in turn fluid and violent, the piece explores whether we inevitably fall prey to decay and inaction, or whether we can step out of the past to find beauty in overcoming it. The Canadians David Raymond and Tiffany Tregarthen founded their own company in Vancouver after a residency in Belgium; their next pieces are for the Nederlands  Dans Theater and the Hessisches Staatsballett. The two choreographers also dance in Crystal Pite’s Canadian company Kidd Pivot.
