L-E-V Sharon Eyal | Gai Behar:
Chapter 3: The Brutal Journey of the Heart

(Israel)

The Brutal Journey of the Heart ends with separation and healing: Chapter 3 concludes a trilogy about love, the first part of which – “OCD Love” – premiered to great acclaim at the very first Colours International Dance Festival in 2015. Since then, choreographer Sharon Eyal has become an internationally coveted icon of modern ballet, with a distinctive style marked by a hypnotic mixture of choreographic matrix and the individual breaking out of it, her famous mincing on half-point, and a sensual meandering of movements. After the obsession of love and its fragmentation, this piece deals with healing the wound, with processes of repair and reassembly, the rediscovery of lightness. Like a big, pulsating heart, the group absorbs the individual, providing the solitary figure with the comfort of community – the symbol of the heart also beats blood red on the costumes, which have been adorned with old, symbolic etchings by Dior chief designer Maria Grazia Chiuri that look like filigree body tattoos. Drummer and DJ Ori Lichtik once again provides Eyal and her artistic partner Gai Behar with a pulsating soundscape of techno beats in which salsa, blues and African rhythms merge.

„A powerful outburst of emotion.“ – Westdeutsche Allgemeine

„Sharon Eyal’s airy “Chapter 3” captivates the eye like a swarm of butterflies.“ – Süddeutsche Zeitung

„Why is it that, from their first movement, we can hardly take our eyes off the fascinating creatures into which the ensemble of the Israeli company L-E-V has been repeatedly transforming itself for years?“ – Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
