Description
COLOURS brings dance to the people – not only on the Theaterhaus stages! As usual, Eric Gauthier and the company as well as first-rate instructors want to get the whole of Stuttgart moving: mostly open-air and irresistibly persuasive. A new format will be added in 2025: the COLOURS Collaborations in cooperation with Stuttgart culture partners.
Canadian choreographer Marie Chouinard is not only bringing her latest work to Stuttgart, she is also going to the museum while she is here: in front of the famous works of art displayed in Stuttgart’s Staatsgalerie, the dancers in her company will aim to forge a quiet, secret form of contact with visitors to the museum. Chouinard created the work In Museum for herself in 2012 and has described it as “my favourite of all the solos I have created in my career.” After performing at many renowned museums around the world, the dancers from Canada are now inviting art lovers in Stuttgart to whisper a secret wish in their ears. They will respond with a free and spontaneous dance with which, almost like a prophetess or a shaman, they conjure up the powers to make this wish come true. The moment of secret trust between visitor and artist becomes a dazzling improvisation, a silent prayer or a cheerful retort; each wish opens up a new dance universe. What we now call “interactive art” blossoms here as a fleeting, magical moment between us and the dancers, unfettered wondrous beings who translate our hidden thoughts into the singing, dreaming, twitching or flying of their bodies.
These touching exchanges elevate the public spectacle into a ritual concerning some ancient and fundamental aspect of our humanity: the need and desire to communicate and connect. The register and intensity of the experience is entirely a private one, but being witness to something so powerful never is. — The Dance Current
We are in the presence of an artist in harmony with her audience. A mystical experience that responds to a search for meaning by way of an imagined symbolism. — 4Mtl.com
